Today, let’s take a moment to practice a little mindfulness meditation. The great thing about mindfulness is it’s an easy meditation technique you can practice at home. If you’re looking for a simple meditation exercise, let’s just take a moment to check in together. You don’t need a mat, a cushion, or any fancy equipment to get started. You just need a willingness to be present, to step outside, and to check in with yourself.

Here we go:

“Though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease. Every hidden cell is throbbing with music and life, every fibre thrilling like harp strings, while incense is ever flowing from balsam bells and leaves. No wonder the hills and groves were God’s first temples.” -John Muir

Go outside. Get off the concrete. Feel the fresh air brush its fingertips against your skin. Notice the smell. Of green. Of trees. Of life.

Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly.

Notice the sight. Of green. Of trees. Of the gnarly way the bark winds its way around a trunk and up into the branches. Notice the shade cast by the leaves.

Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly.

Welcome to the original temple. The universal sacred space accessible to everyone.

Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly.

Just a brief moment to notice the world – both the one around you and the one within.

Celebrate the life you find there.
